“It's not the same organising an end of term party for a school or college group, as for a group of adolescents who are leaving school or adults who are completing their degree or postgraduate studies. Graduation, whenever it is, is a really important moment because the student has invested a lot of time and money so it merits a special celebration.”

At A*DESK we've also animated ourselves to organise one, given that this month of June we end a long and intense peregrination through the halls of the art world and curating. Ending a course of studies also represents a step towards the professional world, we've asked ourselves about this world that awaits us on the other side of graduating, we've given it a lot of thought and like all good students researched how they've done it at other schools.

The projects we're presenting arose out of the joint efforts of the participants in the workshop Turn it Again, Sam!, that reflected on questions such as education and the professionalization of art.

What rituals are necessary to become professional? In which spaces does this professionalization occur? What is the function of mediation and education in art? What is the function of camouflage and the infiltration into other camps? What effect do the trends in art practice have? How does one relate critical practices with the hegemonic and the transformative?

We don't know if the Sorbonne will burn, if we will reject our diplomas, get good grades, bad ones or indifferent ones, if we will do a casting of obedience, sing with Mónica Naranjo or confess, in a final turn turn turn!

“No és el mateix organitzar una festa de final de curs per a un grup d'escolars, que fer-ho amb un grup d'adolescents que acaben l'etapa escolar, o adults que acaben els estudis superiors o de postgrau. Realment, la graduació sigui en l'etapa que sigui, és un moment important perquè l'estudiant ha invertit molt de temps i diners i mereix una celebració especial.”

A A*Desk també ens hem animat a muntar-ne una, ja que aquest mes de juny acabem un llarg i intens periple per les aules del món de l'art i el comissariat. Acabar un curs d'estudis també representa un pas al món professional, ens hem preguntat per aquest món que ens espera a l'altre costat del graduat, li hem donat moltes voltes i com a bones alumnes hem revisat com ho han fet en d'altres escoles.

Els projectes que presentem surten del treball conjunt amb els participants del workshop Turn it again, sam! en el que vam reflexionar sobre qüestions com l'educació i la profesionalització en art.

¿Quins rituals són necessaris per a la professionalització? ¿En quins espais es dóna aquesta professionalització? ¿Quina és la funció de la mediació i de l'educació en l'art? ¿Quina pot ser la funció del camuflate i de la infiltració en altres camps? ¿Com afecten les modes a la pràctica artística? ¿Com es relacionen les pràctiques crítiques amb el que és hegemònic i transformador?

No sabem si cremarà la Sorbonne, si rebutjarem els nostres diplomes, si treurem bones, males o notes regulars, si farem un càsting d'obediència, si cantarem com Monica Naranjo o si ens confessarem en un darrer turn turn turn!

“No es lo mismo organizar la fiesta de fin de curso para un grupo escolar o un colegio, que hacerlo con un grupo de adolescentes que terminan la etapa escolar o adultos que terminan sus estudios superiores o de posgrado. Realmente, la graduación, sea en la etapa que sea, es un momento importante porque el estudiante ha invertido mucho tiempo y dinero, y merece una celebración especial.”

En A*DESK también nos hemos animado a montar una, puesto que este mes de junio acabamos un largo e intenso periplo por las aulas del mundo del arte y el comisariado. Acabar un curso de estudios representa también un paso al mundo profesional, nos hemos preguntado por ese mundo que nos acecha al otro lado del graduado, le hemos dado muchas vueltas y como buenas alumnas hemos revisado cómo lo hicieron en otras escuelas.

Los proyectos que presentamos surgen del trabajo conjunto con los participantes del workshop Turn it Again, Sam! donde reflexionamos sobre cuestiones como la educación y la profesionalización en arte.

Summer School

7 routes. Art today via the contexts where it happens

An exploration via 7 routes that traverse spaces in Barcelona, that form an introduction to contemporary art: the processes of art production, curating, the art market, museums, self-management, up and coming art, cultural policies, projects in public spaces. Artists and cultural producers will accompany us to different spaces allowing us to observe current practices in art, in all its different facets.

These routes will be complemented with an exercise to record and document them, realised by the participants in the studio, the proposal being for the participants to generate a map that charts the state of art practices within the metropolitan area.

Course coordinator: Oriol Fontdevila, art critic and exhibition curator. This activity is included within the summer courses offered by the UB and is recognised with 1 credit for attendance and participation or 1,5 for a full academic credit towards degree studies.

Route 1: Up and Coming versus Young art.. Led by Oriol Fontdevila, art critic and curator.

Route: La Capella, Can Felipa, Sant Andreu Contemporani, Sala d'Art Jove.

Monday 8 July, morning.

Route 2: Criticism and curating at close hand. Led by Pilar Bonet, art historian and critic.

Tour: ‘Cicle Macarena', with Estel Boada; ‘Distància', with Alexandra Laudo; ‘Morir de Frío', with Anna Dot; ‘Blue Seven Phenomenon', with Sonia Fernández Pan; ‘Festival Plaga', with Irina Mutt.

Monday 8 July, afternoon.

Route 3: Centres of Production. The profession of the artist. Led by Martí Anson, visual artist.

Tour: Hangar, Experimentem amb l'art.

Tuesday 9 July, morning.

Route 4: Redefining the role of the gallery. Possible models for the future. Led by Juan Canela and Ane Aguirre, curators and independent critics and members of Colectivo Azotea.

Tour: ADN, NoguerasBlanchard, ProjecteSD.

Tuesday 9 July, afternoon.

Route 5: Do It Yourself Initiatives. The perimeters of contemporary art. Led by Quim Packard, artist and independent curator.

Route 6: Art projects in the city. Invisibility, exceptionality and the marginalisation of artistic interventions in the public space in Barcelona of the Olympics. Led by Octavi Rofes, anthropologist.

Route 7: Brief archaeologies into art policies. Led by Jorge Luís Marzo, historian, art curator and writer.
