Quantificaci\u00f3 i \u00e9xtasi"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\bLa humanitat ha emprat des de sempre rituals per recobrar l&#8217;equilibri davant torbacions provocades pel desordre del m\u00f3n i els seus comportaments vertiginosos. La viol\u00e8ncia, les cat\u00e0strofes naturals o la malaltia es troben en l&#8217;origen de nombroses pr\u00e0ctiques rituals. Els excessos col\u00b7lectius formen aix\u00ed mateix part d&#8217;una tradici\u00f3 ancestral. Hi ha rituals vinculats a esdeveniments m\u00edtics, com les antigues bacanals dedicades a Dionisi que, a m\u00e9s de ser representacions dram\u00e0tiques i l\u00edriques, inclo\u00efen desenfrenades danses, tumultuoses desfilades, orgies, ritus ext\u00e0tics i consum de vi. D&#8217;altra banda, les drogues \u2013legals i il\u00b7legals\u2013 s&#8217;han utilitzat des de temps inmemorable, associades \u2013o no\u2013 a rituals com, per exemple, l&#8217;\u00fas dels al\u00b7lucin\u00f2gens en la cultura inca (que data de 8600 AC) i de l&#8217;opi pels sumeris (de 5000 AC).<\/p>\n<p>Sigui el que sigui que la humanitat ha ingerit, els artistes es troben entre els seus usuaris m\u00e9s notoris. Per citar un cas, les avantguardes de principis del segle XX, en concret els surrealistes i la seva passi\u00f3 pels psicod\u00e8lics. I \u00e9s que la relaci\u00f3 dels artistes amb les drogues es fa \u00fanica pel fet que comuniquen aquestes experi\u00e8ncies a trav\u00e9s de l&#8217;art, integrant fins i tot la ingesta en la seva pr\u00e0ctica, com ho fa Marina Abramovi\u0107 a <em><strong>Rhythm 2<\/strong><\/em> (1974) o en el cas de Rob Pruitt, qui convida als espectadors a esnifar l&#8217;obra <em><strong>Cocaine Buffet\u00a0<\/strong><\/em>(1994) com Narc\u00eds, que consistia en una l\u00ednia de sis metres de coca\u00efna sobre un mirall. De manera similar, Tania Bruguera va repartir coca\u00efna entre els assistents a una performance a Bogot\u00e0 el 2009.<\/p>\n<p>Entre rituals i drogues camina el corpus art\u00edstic del canadenc radicat a Berl\u00edn <strong>Jeremy Shaw<\/strong> (Vancouver, 1977), el treball del qual se centra en l&#8217;exploraci\u00f3 d&#8217;all\u00f2 que \u00f1es transcendental i els estats alterats de consci\u00e8ncia. Basant-se en l&#8217;estudi de les pr\u00e0ctiques culturals i cient\u00edfiques sobre aquesta transcend\u00e8ncia i combinant i amplificant estrat\u00e8gies de <em>cinema v\u00e9rit\u00e9<\/em>, art conceptual o videomusical, les seves obres creen un espai postdocumental en el qual rituals, sistemes de creences i hist\u00f2ries dispars cohabiten en un limb interpretatiu. Shaw t\u00e9 una estranya habilitat per explorar i capturar expressions visibles de realitats invisibles. La seva <em>id\u00e9e fixe<\/em> per la p\u00e8rdua de control i els estats alterats, generalment amb l&#8217;ajuda de drogues, ball, ci\u00e8ncia, tr\u00e0ngol i \u00e8xtasi religi\u00f3s, s&#8217;eleva per sobre de l&#8217;origen que els provoca per confrontar al p\u00fablic amb la inefabilidad i incomunicabilidad de l&#8217;experi\u00e8ncia subjectiva.<\/p>\n<p>Els \u00faltims treballs de Shaw es van presentar aquest estiu a la \u00a0Kunstverein d&#8217;Hamburg, en l&#8217;exposici\u00f3 <em><strong>Quantification Trilogy<\/strong><\/em>, composta per la tr\u00edada de videos <em><strong>Quickeners<\/strong><\/em> (2014), <em><strong>Liminals<\/strong><\/em> (2017) i <em><strong>I Can See Forever<\/strong> <\/em>(2018). Acompanyava als films la s\u00e8rie de fotografies <em><strong>Towards Universal Pattern Recognition<\/strong><\/em> (2016), que a m\u00e9s va formar part de la 57a Biennal de Ven\u00e8cia. Aquesta pe\u00e7a mostra individus en diversos estats d&#8217;\u00e8xtasi religi\u00f3s, emmarcats en protuberants cristalls caleidosc\u00f3picos que distorsionen les imatges en m\u00faltiples repeticions. En aplicar un dispositiu \u00f2ptic associat amb l&#8217;experi\u00e8ncia psicod\u00e8lica a les fotos documentals, l&#8217;obra considera la universalitat de tota experi\u00e8ncia transcendental, ja sigui espiritual, hedonista, cient\u00edfica o de qualsevol altre tipus. Aquesta idea de la universalitat continua en la trilogia, on -a difer\u00e8ncia dels seus films anteriors, en els quals la transcend\u00e8ncia s&#8217;aconseguia amb drogues\u2013 introdueix la religi\u00f3 com a ambival\u00e8ncia davant el desig d&#8217;escapar, ja sigui del temps o del cos. La religi\u00f3 no solament es presenta com una t\u00e8cnica per aconseguir l&#8217;\u00e8xtasi, sin\u00f3 ir\u00f2nicament, com a manera de resist\u00e8ncia al control.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_24494\" style=\"width: 455px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-24494\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-24494 size-large\" src=\"http:\/\/a-desk.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/Quickeners-c-Fred-Dott-445x400.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"445\" height=\"400\" srcset=\"https:\/\/a-desk.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/Quickeners-c-Fred-Dott-445x400.jpg 445w, https:\/\/a-desk.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/Quickeners-c-Fred-Dott-768x690.jpg 768w, https:\/\/a-desk.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/Quickeners-c-Fred-Dott.jpg 1782w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 445px) 100vw, 445px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-24494\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><em>Quickeners<\/em> (c) Fred Dott, courtesy Kunstverein in Hamburg<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Les tres pel\u00b7l\u00edcules estan ambientades en diferents moments en el futur i cadascuna \u00e9s un anacronisme: com m\u00e9s avancem en el temps, m\u00e9s antiga \u00e9s la t\u00e8cnica de filmaci\u00f3 utilitzada. <em><strong>Quickeners<\/strong><\/em> se situa 500 anys en el futur. El planeta est\u00e0 poblat per \u00e9ssers humans qu\u00e0ntics, interconnectats pel n\u00favol digital \u201cThe Hive\u201d (el rusc), que operen \u00fanicament amb pensament racional pur i han aconseguit la immortalitat. Un fosc trastorn denominat \u201cs\u00edndrome de l&#8217;atavisme hum\u00e0\u201d, consistent a desitjar i sentir com els seus avantpassats, afecta a una petita comunitat, els Quickeners. Aquest grup empra rituals obsolets per desconnectar-se, en un proc\u00e9s que els humans qu\u00e0ntics denominen \u201cquickening\u201d (acceleraci\u00f3). Per il\u00b7lustrar la hist\u00f2ria, Shaw usa unes imatges documentals de 1967 sobre \u201cThe Holy Ghost People\u201d, un grup religi\u00f3s cristi\u00e0 pentecostal [[i]] d&#8217;encantadors de serps localitzat a Els Apalatxes que mostren testimoniatges indesxifrables, sermons, oracions, balls convulsivos, di\u00e0legs en diferents lleng\u00fces i estats d&#8217;\u00e8xtasis. Quickeners emfatitza la propensi\u00f3 humana a creure en un m\u00e9s enll\u00e0 de la realitat racional. Aquesta cr\u00edtica a la racionalitat moderna i la tornada a les emocions sembla positiva fins que apareix la visi\u00f3 dist\u00f2pica dels fonamentalistes. Al final del film, es desvetlla que els encantadors de serps tamb\u00e9 es quantificaran. La meva sensaci\u00f3 va ser tant d&#8217;alleujament com de aprensi\u00f3.<\/p>\n<p>El segon film, <em><strong>Liminals<\/strong><\/em>, representa una societat marginada del futur que intenta salvar a la humanitat de l&#8217;extinci\u00f3 a trav\u00e9s d&#8217;activitats transcendentals obsoletes. Mitjan\u00e7ant la combinaci\u00f3 de pel\u00b7l\u00edcula de 16mm i digital i emprant l&#8217;est\u00e8tica del <em>cinema v\u00e9rit\u00e9<\/em>, <em><strong>Liminals<\/strong><\/em>, se situa tres generacions en el futur i segueix a vuit subjectes que es van involucrant en diferents comportaments rituals cat\u00e0rtics, des de la meditaci\u00f3 kundalini i el whirling[<a href=\"#_edn2\" name=\"_ednref2\">[ii]<\/a>] fins a la dansa moderna i el headbanging [<a href=\"#_edn3\" name=\"_ednref3\">[iii]<\/a>]. Els protagonistes creuen que mitjan\u00e7ant aquestes t\u00e8cniques i l&#8217;\u00fas d&#8217;ADN artificial aconseguiran un creixement del cervell per accedir a \u201cEl Liminal\u201d, un paraespai especulatiu entre el f\u00edsic i el virtual on la humanitat pot existir temporalment \u201cen gestaci\u00f3\u201d cap a una nova fase de l&#8217;evoluci\u00f3.<\/p>\n<div class=\"vimeo video-container\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Jeremy Shaw &quot;Liminals&quot;\" src=\"https:\/\/player.vimeo.com\/video\/218348750?dnt=1&amp;app_id=122963\" width=\"800\" height=\"450\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"autoplay; fullscreen; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Completant la trilogia, <em><strong>I Ca See Forever<\/strong><\/em> se situa 40 anys en el futur. Es presenta com un episodi d&#8217;una s\u00e8rie documental de TV basada en un experiment governamental fallit que pretenia crear una s\u00edntesi harmoniosa entre humans i m\u00e0quines mitjan\u00e7ant la injecci\u00f3 d&#8217;ADN artificial a un grup de persones. Aquests subjectes van ser v\u00edctimes de la presa de control per part de la intel\u00b7lig\u00e8ncia artificial. El film presenta a Roderick Dale, un jove descendent d&#8217;aquest grup que \u00e9s immune a la influ\u00e8ncia de la intel\u00b7lig\u00e8ncia artificial. Dale ha comprom\u00e8s la seva vida a la dansa i \u00e9s un ciborg amb car\u00e0cter general, per aix\u00f2 posseeix una impressionant llista d&#8217;atributs superiors. \u00c9s practicant el seu ball virtu\u00f3s que afirma &#8220;veure per sempre&#8221;, o la capacitat de transcendir a un pl\u00e0nol digital mentre mant\u00e9 una pres\u00e8ncia f\u00edsica corporal. Mentre que en els altres films els subjectes descriuen els seus estats transcendentals, sempre en un angl\u00e8s incomprensible, en aquest, \u00e9s una veu desenganxada, presumiblement la de la intel\u00b7lig\u00e8ncia artificial, la que interpreta o \u201cquantifica\u201d les experi\u00e8ncies. No \u00e9s clar si es tracta d&#8217;una entitat coercitiva artificial o una mica m\u00e9s hum\u00e0, una consci\u00e8ncia transcendental que no difereix de l&#8217;experi\u00e8ncia ext\u00e1tica comunit\u00e0ria.<\/p>\n<p>En la trilogia, la narrativa especula amb el temps, la tecnologia i la traject\u00f2ria controlada de l&#8217;evoluci\u00f3, documentant \u201csubjectes\u201d que reaccionen contra ella. Una evoluci\u00f3 a \u00e9ssers humans qu\u00e0ntics que han aconseguit l&#8217;ideal plat\u00f2nic d&#8217;una societat racional lliure de maneres d&#8217;expressi\u00f3 emocionalment manipulatius, com la m\u00fasica i la religi\u00f3. Per\u00f2 no van ser les innovacions sempre criticades? L&#8217;escriptura, alma mater de la nostra cultura actual, va anar durament rebutjada per les tradicions orals. Posteriorment l&#8217;alfabetitzaci\u00f3 va seguir el mateix cam\u00ed \u2013l\u00f2gic, tenint en compte que permet desenvolupar opinions pr\u00f2pies que despr\u00e9s desafien a l&#8217;autoritat\u2013.<\/p>\n<p>En un moment hist\u00f2ric dominat per la quantitat ingent d&#8217;informaci\u00f3, not\u00edcies falses i disminuci\u00f3 de la capacitat d&#8217;atenci\u00f3, Internet, el nostre cervell col\u00b7lectiu contemporani, tamb\u00e9 genera una \u201cment rusc\u201d. Potser \u201cThe Hive\u201d es pot comparar amb les xarxes socials o amb el capitalisme cognitiu, caracteritzat per la gesti\u00f3 del temps i els treballadors amb la finalitat d&#8217;aconseguir la productivitat m\u00e0xima.
