Havia estat una edici\u00f3 estranya per les not\u00edcies que es rebien des d&#8217;It\u00e0lia, on una estranya malaltia arribada de la Xina estava causant contagis i morts. Havia estat el tema de conversa principal durant la setmana escassa que dura la fira; sobretot, comentaris ir\u00f2nics sobre els italians, que ja se sap, i bromes a costa del raret de torn que, en els primers dies, va gosar utilitzar una mascareta. En general tots ens vam saludar, besar i abra\u00e7ar com hav\u00edem fet des de sempre en rebre les visites als nostres estands.<\/p>\n<p>Amb prou feines 15 dies despr\u00e9s es va decretar el confinament de tot el pa\u00eds al mateix temps que els contagis superaven els d&#8217;It\u00e0lia. Tancats a les nostres cases, amb dolor i por, en un silenci desconegut a la ciutat, sab\u00edem del m\u00f3n exclusivament a trav\u00e9s dels mitjans de comunicaci\u00f3. I aix\u00ed vam veure a tota la premsa nacional la fotografia de l&#8217;hospital de campanya que es va instal\u00b7lar a Ifema el 23 de mar\u00e7. En poc m\u00e9s de 20 dies, el pavell\u00f3 va passar d&#8217;allotjar la mateixa fira d&#8217;art que coneix\u00edem des de fa 40 anys a produir una imatge aterridora que semblava sortida d&#8217;una pel\u00b7l\u00edcula dist\u00f2pica.<\/p>\n<p>\u00abL&#8217;hospital m\u00e9s gran d\u2019Espanya\u00bb era la frase m\u00e9s repetida. \u00abConstru\u00eft en temps r\u00e8cord\u00bb. Primer al pavell\u00f3 5 i despr\u00e9s al 7 i al 9, aix\u00f2 \u00e9s, els tres que precisament venien fent-se servir per a ARCO en les seves edicions regulars o de m\u00e0xima extensi\u00f3. 1300 llits, 100 posats UCI i tot ampliable per si fos necessari m\u00e9s del que fora. Els espanyols demostr\u00e0vem la nostra capacitat organitzativa per a donar-li la volta a la realitat i muntar un hospital on una mica abans hi havia art contemporani, igual que, a penes un mes abans, hav\u00edem vist fer als xinesos amb un gest de superioritat (quan, \u00f2bviament, aquesta malaltia era cosa dels altres, a nosaltres no ens anava a passar aix\u00f2\u2026). Ara tamb\u00e9 ens enfront\u00e0vem a l&#8217;espant d&#8217;un espai de gaireb\u00e9 10000 metres quadrats i m\u00e9s de 10 metres d&#8217;altura ocupat per llits.<\/p>\n<p>L&#8217;elecci\u00f3 d\u2019Ifema es justifica per motius evidents: l&#8217;exist\u00e8ncia d&#8217;un edifici buit i disponible, la seva situaci\u00f3 f\u00edsica integrada en un sistema de comunicacions, les possibilitats funcionals dels pavellons. Aix\u00ed, el 7 i el 9 es prefereixen abans que altres perqu\u00e8 compten amb canalitzacions subterr\u00e0nies que permeten portar oxigen a cada llit. Una dada inicialment pr\u00e0ctica que, de sobte, s&#8217;omple de l&#8217;horror de les implicacions. Llavors recordem que Ifema ja havia servit altres vegades per a donar un servei d&#8217;emerg\u00e8ncia: quan va rebre els cossos recuperats de l&#8217;accident del Spanair o de les v\u00edctimes dels atemptats de l\u201911-M.<\/p>\n<p>Al mateix temps que aquesta imatge, va arribar la ret\u00f2rica pr\u00f2pia del temps de guerra: batalla contra el virus, hospital de campanya, estrat\u00e8gia de lluita. El que ens estava passant va deixar de ser la vida habitual per a ser el que hi ha abans de la tornada a la normalitat, que no \u00e9s ni el que era abans i ni aix\u00f2 de sempre. En un moment d&#8217;excepci\u00f3, el llenguatge deixa els seus usos habituals per a prendre nous significats, per\u00f2 \u00e9s el record de l&#8217;\u00fas anterior el que (en connectar l&#8217;abans amb l&#8217;ara) ens fa ser conscients de l&#8217;excepcionalitat que estem vivint.<\/p>\n<p>El tipus d&#8217;estructura a la qual pertany Ifema \u00e9s la creaci\u00f3 ic\u00f2nica de l&#8217;arquitectura del moviment modern. \u00c9s l&#8217;anomenat \u00abcontenidor\u00bb: un edifici b\u00e0sic, en aparen\u00e7a depurat gr\u00e0cies a l&#8217;\u00fas del formig\u00f3 i l&#8217;acer, sense elements decoratius que el vinculin amb una sola funci\u00f3 determinada i, per tant, adaptable a qualsevol finalitat. Neteja de formes, usos infinits. S\u00f3n resultat i s\u00edmbol de la modernitat. Per tant, no \u00e9s d&#8217;estranyar que la mateixa construcci\u00f3 serveixi (malsons de l&#8217;arquitectura tardocapitalista apart) per a un poliesportiu o una biblioteca, per a un aeroport o per a un teatre. Per a un recinte firal o per a un hospital. Una llegenda urbana diu que l&#8217;edifici de la Facultat de Ci\u00e8ncies de la informaci\u00f3 de Madrid es va projectar inicialment per a ser una pres\u00f3.<\/p>\n<p>Rosalind Krauss va escriure que el reticle \u00e9s l&#8217;estructura b\u00e0sica de l&#8217;art del segle XX. Per a la cr\u00edtic d&#8217;art, aquesta forma \u00ab[\u2026]anuncia la voluntat de silenci de l&#8217;art modern [\u2026] la seva hostilitat respecte a la narraci\u00f3[\u2026] gira l&#8217;esquena a la naturalesa\u00bb. \u00c9s \u00abantinatural, antimim\u00e8tica, antireal\u00bb, \u00aben la monotonia de les seves coordenades, el reticle serveix per a eliminar la multiplicitat de dimensions d\u2019all\u00f2 real [\u2026]\u00bb (R. Krauss, L&#8217;originalitat de l&#8217;avantguarda i altres mites moderns, 1985). Per tant, no \u00e9s estrany que aquesta formaci\u00f3 de llits ens record\u00e9s immediatament a una obra d&#8217;art. Gaireb\u00e9 podria haver estat una performance a c\u00e0rrec d&#8217;algun artista que particip\u00e9s a la fira. Un projecte especial. Un esdeveniment d&#8217;ARCO dels que surten a la premsa. Una d&#8217;aquestes peces de les quals es comenta el preu o et pregunten que com es ven (una partitura? instruccions sobre paper?). De les quals s&#8217;afirma amb seguretat que aix\u00f2 no \u00e9s art. El mateix podria haver passat amb altres de les imatges que van apar\u00e8ixer als mitjans en aquests dies. Recordo especialment una fila de bombones d&#8217;oxigen inquietantment ordenades.<\/p>\n<p>El terror apareix a vegades en unir dues imatges que no haurien d&#8217;estar juntes. Javier Mar\u00edas ho descriu a Totes les \u00e0nimes, quan el personatge del coix Alan Marriott parla del seu gos, que t\u00e9 una cama amputada i que, en la seva companyia, no crida tant l&#8217;atenci\u00f3 com ho faria si camin\u00e9s al costat d&#8217;una noia perfectament sana. L&#8217;horror, diu, dep\u00e8n \u00aben bona part de l&#8217;associaci\u00f3 d&#8217;idees. De la conjunci\u00f3 d&#8217;idees. De la capacitat per a unir-les. Vost\u00e8 pot no associar mai dues idees de manera que li mostrin el seu horror, l&#8217;horror de cadascuna d&#8217;elles, i aix\u00ed no con\u00e8ixer-ho en tota la seva vida. Per\u00f2 tamb\u00e9 pot viure instal\u00b7lat en ell si t\u00e9 la mala sort d&#8217;associar cont\u00ednuament les idees justes. Per exemple, aquesta noia que ven flors davant de casa seva. No hi ha res terrible en ella, per si sola no pot infondre horror. Al contrari. Resulta molt atractiva. \u00c9s simp\u00e0tica i amable\u2026. Per\u00f2 aquesta noia pot infondre horror.
