Sabem fins a quin punt aquesta \u00e9s una ut\u00f2pica modernitat que ha participat en l&#8217;embarcament planetari, en la reactivaci\u00f3 d\u2019antigues fantasies ontol\u00f2giques, espantant i alegrant, conjurant i entusiasmant, per garantir l&#8217;status quo. La novetat de la innovaci\u00f3 sona buida en un context d&#8217;extinci\u00f3 i s&#8217;ha convertit en <strong>la com\u00e8dia de vells futurs<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>\u00c9s amb aquesta sospita dels futurs perduts de Mark Fisher que m&#8217;agradaria abordar la q\u00fcesti\u00f3 de la IA, rebatejada com a <strong>imaginaci\u00f3 artificial<\/strong> (ImA). Perqu\u00e8 si els mitjans de comunicaci\u00f3 celebren i s\u2019espanten per Dall-E, SD o chatGPT, abordant la IA com a substituci\u00f3 (d&#8217;artistes, dissenyadors gr\u00e0fics, escriptors i codificadors), un es pregunta si els mitjans materials necessaris (extracci\u00f3 i energia) valen la pena. No \u00e9s absurda aquesta precipitaci\u00f3 log\u00edstica en un context d\u2019extinci\u00f3?<\/p>\n<p>Existeix una <strong>hiperproducci\u00f3<\/strong> de dades a causa de la seva recursivitat. Mentre que la industrialitzaci\u00f3 del segle XIX va mecanitzar la reproducci\u00f3 dels mitjans, les tres d\u00e8cades de la Web han capturat els rastres de la nostra exist\u00e8ncia i les m\u00e0quines s&#8217;alimenten d\u2019ella. La hiperproducci\u00f3 genera <strong>mitjans <\/strong>automatitzant la mimesi. \u00c9s un canvi radical en l&#8217;esfera de la representaci\u00f3 que sembla impulsar al seu cl\u00edmax el que el precedeix: a partir d\u2019un conjunt de dades (dataset), l&#8217;ideal del qual \u00e9s contenir totes les imatges passades, es calcula la probabilitat de cada p\u00edxel per deduir-ne par\u00e0metres que permetin generar noves imatges que s&#8217;assemblin al que coneixem sense que hagin existit mai.<\/p>\n<p>En aquest espai latent no hi ha m\u00e9s imatges, sin\u00f3 estad\u00edstiques vectoritzades i un espai abstracte i irrepresentable, la caixa negra. Aquest espai latent no copia ni enganxa fragments visuals ja existents segons una l\u00f2gica de citaci\u00f3, sin\u00f3 que produeix noves composicions. Aix\u00ed doncs, la cr\u00edtica cl\u00e0ssica de la incapacitat de la IA per a produir alguna cosa diferent de la mitjana del que ja es coneix es basa en una incomprensi\u00f3. El que reconeixem no \u00e9s el que ja ha existit, no \u00e9s un retorn, \u00e9s la mimesi que s&#8217;ha tornat aut\u00f2noma, enrotllant-se sobre si mateixa.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1000\" height=\"1000\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-42016\" src=\"http:\/\/a-desk.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/ressurect_24.jpg\" alt=\"\" srcset=\"https:\/\/a-desk.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/ressurect_24.jpg 1000w, https:\/\/a-desk.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/ressurect_24-400x400.jpg 400w, https:\/\/a-desk.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/ressurect_24-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/a-desk.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/ressurect_24-768x768.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Des del futur<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Aquestes imatges s\u00f3n d\u2019un realisme inquietant, estranyament familiars amb una dist\u00e0ncia, com si la realitat es convert\u00eds en un record: un somni dins d\u2019un altre somni. Aquesta sensaci\u00f3 de <strong>d\u00e9j\u00e0-vu<\/strong> \u00e9s la que experimentem quan veiem un objecte cultural. Tenim la sensaci\u00f3 que ja s\u2019ha produ\u00eft, perqu\u00e8 ja hem arribat tard. S\u2019ha fet tot, o s&#8217;ha fet massa, perqu\u00e8 el que queda per fer no sembli un suplement innecessari. Els artistes no han estat inactius en relaci\u00f3 amb la industrialitzaci\u00f3 del d\u00e9j\u00e0-vu, integrant retalls de premsa, icones medi\u00e0tiques o mitjans de postproducci\u00f3. Per\u00f2 amb l\u2019ImA, passem a una altra etapa: el d\u00e9j\u00e0-vu es converteix en un mitj\u00e0 la forma del qual \u00e9s estad\u00edstica.<\/p>\n<p>Proposo nomenar <strong>desrealisme<\/strong> a aquest nou realisme estad\u00edstic. Estem comen\u00e7ant a explorar l&#8217;espai latent, els contorns d&#8217;aquest univers abstracte que no dep\u00e8n de la modelitzaci\u00f3 algor\u00edtmica i de la ideaci\u00f3, sin\u00f3 de l&#8217;acumulaci\u00f3 de mitjans. Aix\u00f2 produeix un defecte en el realisme. Es poden generar imatges, per\u00f2 tamb\u00e9 es pot introduir una fotografia en una xarxa neuronal i trobar-la a l&#8217;espai latent. Aix\u00f2 significa que no sols totes les imatges passades s\u00f3n all\u00e0, sin\u00f3 tamb\u00e9 les futures, i \u00e9s per aix\u00f2 que les imatges inexistents poden semblar realistes. El realisme del desrealisme \u00e9s aquest mode d&#8217;exist\u00e8ncia en l&#8217;espai estad\u00edstic de l&#8217;ImA de totes les imatges: les que ja han tingut lloc, les que tindran lloc.<\/p>\n<p>Aquest mode d&#8217;exist\u00e8ncia \u00e9s el <strong>possible<\/strong>, no el virtual. Seria massa llarg entaular aqu\u00ed un di\u00e0leg entre Arist\u00f2til, Bergson i Deleuze, per\u00f2 podem percebre en aquestes imatges que s\u00f3n menys virtuals que possibles. Les imatges virtuals s\u00f3n imatges que arriben a ser i que existeixen en pot\u00e8ncia, \u00e9s a dir, segons les lleis. S\u00f3n les imatges sint\u00e8tiques que requereixen un programari que cont\u00e9 una modelitzaci\u00f3 de les lleis f\u00edsiques (gravetat, pes, resist\u00e8ncia, etc.) S\u00f3n hipoteticodeductives. Les imatges possibles s\u00f3n les de l&#8217;espai inductiu de l&#8217;ImA. No tenen m\u00e9s lleis que la inducci\u00f3 estad\u00edstica. Dif\u00edcilment comprenem el seu funcionament, perqu\u00e8 aquest espai latent \u00e9s absurd i no encarna la ideaci\u00f3 humana.<\/p>\n<p>Aquestes imatges del futur no existeixen, per\u00f2 podrien existir. Aquest desrealisme del possible est\u00e0 reconfigurant el realisme en general. Preveiem que els estranys <strong>r\u00e8gims de la veritat<\/strong> a la Web, les not\u00edcies falses, les pseudoci\u00e8ncies, les conspiracions i la multiplicaci\u00f3 dels enunciats, participen d\u2019aquesta profunda transformaci\u00f3. Les imatges ja no s\u00f3n les empremtes de la llum del m\u00f3n, de les nostres intencions, els nostres models i les nostres lleis. S\u00f3n els rastres de si mateixes, tant del seu passat com del seu futur, del seu flux. L&#8217;espai latent no cont\u00e9 cap imatge, sin\u00f3 totes les seves possibilitats.<\/p>\n<p>Es pot navegar amb par\u00e0metres o amb paraules, com en la tecnologia CLIP que correlaciona imatges i llenguatge. L\u2019habilitat de produir imatges mitjan\u00e7ant l&#8217;entrada de text (le prompt) continua una tradici\u00f3 teol\u00f2gica on les imatges estaven sotmeses a l&#8217;expressi\u00f3 d&#8217;un text sagrat fins al punt de qu\u00e8, com una esp\u00e8cie viva que ha desenvolupat certes funcions sense ra\u00f3 selectiva: <strong>l\u2019exaptaci\u00f3 de<\/strong> les imatges produiria un gir en el seu dest\u00ed.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1000\" height=\"1000\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-42004\" src=\"http:\/\/a-desk.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/ressurect_20-copia.jpg\" alt=\"\" srcset=\"https:\/\/a-desk.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/ressurect_20-copia.jpg 1000w, https:\/\/a-desk.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/ressurect_20-copia-400x400.jpg 400w, https:\/\/a-desk.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/ressurect_20-copia-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/a-desk.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/ressurect_20-copia-768x768.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Finalitzaci\u00f3<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ja no s\u00f3n les imatges les que estan subjectes a la llei del text, s\u00f3n les nostres indicacions les que intenten dibuixar de manera maldestra un fragment temporal de l&#8217;espai latent. La majoria de les imatges s\u00f3n <strong>mediocres<\/strong>. Els resultats s\u00f3n ingenus, com si s&#8217;haguessin oblidat tots els assoliments est\u00e8tics de la modernitat. Tothom pot fascinar-se produint una imatge teclejant unes paraules, per\u00f2 aix\u00f2 implicaria oblidar la redund\u00e0ncia de la seva est\u00e8tica i el car\u00e0cter terriblement pomp\u00f3s de les seves formes. Entenem que no s\u00f3n els textos els que condueixen les imatges, sin\u00f3 al rev\u00e9s, ja que el CLIP permet capturar per primera vegada la imaginaci\u00f3 de milions de persones repartides per tota la Terra: si us don\u00e9s la possibilitat de crear una imatge a partir d&#8217;un text, quin text escriur\u00edeu?<\/p>\n<p>Aquesta \u00e9s la incre\u00efble inversi\u00f3 de l&#8217;ImA sobre el concepte mateix del possible per a produir la primera cartografia de la imaginaci\u00f3 que ara podem definir rigorosament com les imatges possibles. Es podria deduir d&#8217;aquesta cartografia la pobresa de l&#8217;ImA, repetint els t\u00f2pics m\u00e9s avorrits. Per\u00f2 aquest imaginari de s\u00e8ries de televisi\u00f3 americanes i de mashups no em sembla inherent a l\u2019ImA. \u00c9s producte d&#8217;un cert \u00fas d\u2019aquesta, d&#8217;un desig de sotmetre la imatge al text, \u00e9s a dir, a la nostra voluntat. M&#8217;agradaria presentar la meva manera de treballar amb aquestes tecnologies, no \u00e9s una q\u00fcesti\u00f3 de domini, sin\u00f3 de deixar-se anar i d&#8217;una influ\u00e8ncia rec\u00edproca: jo influeixo en el programari que m&#8217;influeix, segons un pas de dos intangible. Tenia una vaga idea del que desitjava escriure: un home s\u2019est\u00e0 morint i ja no distingeix entre el seu passat i les seves possibles exist\u00e8ncies. Vaig alimentar el GPT-2 d&#8217;una biblioteca de textos i vaig escriure el comen\u00e7ament d&#8217;una frase, deixant que el programari la complet\u00e9s fins que una de les seves propostes em va inspirar a escriure una seq\u00fcela, deixant doncs que prengu\u00e9s el relleu i aix\u00ed fins al final del llibre. El resultat va ser una experi\u00e8ncia d&#8217;escriptura esgotadora en qu\u00e8 ja no podia distingir entre la meva intenci\u00f3 i el que em dictava l&#8217;espai latent, les propostes del qual eren a vegades brillants, sovint absurdes i irrellevants. En alienar la meva escriptura d&#8217;aquesta manera, no em posava en contacte amb una superintel\u00b7lig\u00e8ncia de silici, sin\u00f3 amb milions de persones mortes les empremtes escrites de les quals havien alimentat el GPT-2: imaginar \u00e9s posar en contacte a aquells que ja estan morts amb aquells que encara s\u00f3n vius. Amb<strong>Finalitzaci\u00f3<\/strong>, designo aquesta dansa entre dos, on la imaginaci\u00f3 humana es veu afectada per traces d&#8217;altres imaginacions humanes transformades en probabilitats estad\u00edstiques sobre les quals projectem el significat imaginant els contorns d\u2019un espai latent impensable.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Projectem-nos en el moment de la mort de l&#8217;artista en el dolor d&#8217;aquesta injusta desaparici\u00f3, que ha arribat massa aviat, deixant un regust d\u2019assumpte inacabat davant d&#8217;obres fragment\u00e0ries. Cada any, els seus amics podrien reunir-se i llan\u00e7ar un gui\u00f3 que gener\u00e9s possibles arxius d&#8217;aquesta vida no viscuda, obrint cada vegada aquests possibles passats i futurs. Aleshores, els familiars no tindrien cap dubte sobre la mort de l&#8217;artista, no tindrien l&#8217;estupidesa dels transhumanistes, per\u00f2 podrien trobar una certa tranquil\u00b7litat en poder submergir-se en aquestes noves imatges, ressuscitant els difunts no un sentit nost\u00e0lgic, \u00e9s a dir, segons l&#8217;esperan\u00e7a de recuperar el que havia estat, sin\u00f3 com la resurrecci\u00f3<span class=\"footnote_referrer\"><a role=\"button\" tabindex=\"0\" onclick=\"footnote_moveToReference_42107_1('footnote_plugin_reference_42107_1_4');\" onkeypress=\"footnote_moveToReference_42107_1('footnote_plugin_reference_42107_1_4');\" ><sup id=\"footnote_plugin_tooltip_42107_1_4\" class=\"footnote_plugin_tooltip_text\">[4]<\/sup><\/a><span id=\"footnote_plugin_tooltip_text_42107_1_4\" class=\"footnote_tooltip\">El tema de la resurrecci\u00f3 ha tingut una nova rellev\u00e0ncia a trav\u00e9s del transhumanisme, el cosmisme rus i el materialisme especulatiu, especialment amb\u00a0Q.
