Inaugurada l\u2019any 1951, i sent una de les biennals internacionals tradicionals -i la segona m\u00e9s antiga despr\u00e9s de la de Ven\u00e8cia-, l&#8217;aposta curatorial per a la propera edici\u00f3 t\u00e9 la intenci\u00f3 de trencar amb els objectius habituals presents des de la seva creaci\u00f3, que consistien en donar a con\u00e8ixer l&#8217;art brasiler al m\u00f3n i posicionar-se en l&#8217;escena internacional de l&#8217;art contemporani.<\/p>\n<p>De fet, aquest any l&#8217;equip curatorial sorpr\u00e8n. Amb Charles Esche (Esc\u00f2cia, 1962) al capdavant del grup de curadors internacionals i al costat de Galit Elat (Israel, 1965), Pablo Lafuente (Espanya, 1976), Nuria Enguita Mayo (Espanya, 1967) i Oren Sagiv (Israel, 1969), l&#8217;aposta es focalitza en diferents realitats socials, crisis i conflictes on la intervenci\u00f3 de les pr\u00e0ctiques art\u00edstiques juguen un paper per a la seva visualitzaci\u00f3. El plantejament d&#8217;aquesta edici\u00f3 \u00e9s que la biennal es converteixi en un escenari per al debat i la discussi\u00f3, una pla\u00e7a p\u00fablica des d&#8217;on pensar les pr\u00e0ctiques i les pol\u00edtiques del m\u00f3n en qu\u00e8 vivim.<\/p>\n<p>El projecte aborda el lloc de l&#8217;art en la globalitzaci\u00f3 i les realitats contempor\u00e0nies en diferents zones geopol\u00edtiques al voltant de l&#8217;economia, la pol\u00edtica i la cultura. Indagar\u00e0 la situaci\u00f3 regional pel que fa a la pr\u00e0ctica art\u00edstica, aix\u00ed com la d&#8217;altres regions del m\u00f3n descentralitzades o fora dels circuits principals (<em>mainstream<\/em>). En efecte, Charles Esche \u00e9s especialista en art asi\u00e0tic i del Pr\u00f2xim Orient. Ha estat curador de la Biennal de Gwangju (Corea del Sud) al 2002, la 9a Biennal d&#8217;Istanbul (Turquia) al 2005, i la Biennal de Riwaq (Palestina) els anys 2007 i 2009. El seu focus d&#8217;investigaci\u00f3 \u00e9s el replantejament dels formats de museus, centres culturals, biennals i el paper de l&#8217;art en la societat actual.<\/p>\n<p>Dins d&#8217;aquest repensar les institucions muse\u00edstiques, l&#8217;espectador adquireix rellev\u00e0ncia. Intervenint entre l&#8217;obra i l&#8217;audi\u00e8ncia, Esche aspira a crear dispositius i contextos adequats als diferents tipus d\u2019&#8221;usuaris&#8221; d&#8217;una biennal d&#8217;aquestes dimensions (s&#8217;esperen uns 600.000 visitants). Per a aquest prop\u00f2sit, els curadors s&#8217;han traslladat al sud del Brasil -al costat de joves curadors locals i un gran equip de col\u00b7laboradors- per sentir les vibracions del territori i amarar del context, no nom\u00e9s brasiler sin\u00f3 tamb\u00e9 llatinoameric\u00e0, on les tensions socials no s\u00f3n escasses.<\/p>\n<p>Sense perdre de vista els altres suds, i a tall d&#8217;exemple d&#8217;intervenci\u00f3 art\u00edstica i curatorial en conflictes d&#8217;altres latituds, un dels projectes que estar\u00e0 present a la biennal \u00e9s <em>Liminal Spaces<\/em>. Els seus or\u00edgens es remunten a 2004 quan el grup <em>Artists without walls<\/em>, que inclo\u00efa artistes palestins, israelians i internacionals, buscava al\u00e7ar una veu cr\u00edtica davant la construcci\u00f3 del mur de separaci\u00f3 entre els territoris de Palestina i Israel. Les seves accions es guien pel desig de fer &#8220;transparent&#8221; aquesta muralla alhora que fan de mitjancers i conviden al di\u00e0leg entre les dues comunitats, per desbloquejar aquest mur -que no \u00e9s nom\u00e9s f\u00edsic sin\u00f3 tamb\u00e9 cultural i mental.<\/p>\n<p>En definitiva, el desafiament per als <em>curators<\/em> \u00e9s maj\u00fascul, donat el seu enfocament en la comprensi\u00f3 d&#8217;unes realitats considerablement dispars i en la resoluci\u00f3 de conflictes per part de pr\u00e0ctiques curatorials i art\u00edstiques contempor\u00e0nies en els diferents suds globals.
