At a time when criticism recognizes the need to demystify the body in order to restore its sovereignty, the authors gathered here in this issue titled &#8220;Magical Abnormalities&#8221;<span class=\"footnote_referrer\"><a role=\"button\" tabindex=\"0\" onclick=\"footnote_moveToReference_37038_1('footnote_plugin_reference_37038_1_1');\" onkeypress=\"footnote_moveToReference_37038_1('footnote_plugin_reference_37038_1_1');\" ><sup id=\"footnote_plugin_tooltip_37038_1_1\" class=\"footnote_plugin_tooltip_text\">[1]<\/sup><\/a><span id=\"footnote_plugin_tooltip_text_37038_1_1\" class=\"footnote_tooltip\">\u201cMagical Abnormalities\u201d is the title of one of the sections of Borderlands\/La Frontera by Gloria Anzald\u00faa in which she explores the relationship between border-line and non-binary bodies within&nbsp;&#x2026; <span class=\"footnote_tooltip_continue\"  onclick=\"footnote_moveToReference_37038_1('footnote_plugin_reference_37038_1_1');\">Continue reading<\/span><\/span><\/span><script type=\"text\/javascript\"> jQuery('#footnote_plugin_tooltip_37038_1_1').tooltip({ tip: '#footnote_plugin_tooltip_text_37038_1_1', tipClass: 'footnote_tooltip', effect: 'fade', predelay: 0, fadeInSpeed: 200, delay: 400, fadeOutSpeed: 200, position: 'top center', relative: true, offset: [-7, 0], });<\/script> speculate about the need to <em>mythify\u00a0<\/em>and mystify what it means to be queer in the arts. The mediums of <a href=\"https:\/\/a-desk.org\/magazine\/cuatro-anunciaciones-para-un-bestiario-cuir\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Bestiario cuir<\/a> hold our hand and to help us become possessed by four riders; <a href=\"https:\/\/a-desk.org\/magazine\/medusa-responsabilidad-sonora-entre-hermanas\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">edu rubix <\/a>invites us to listen closely to the eternal cry of the Gorgons; <a href=\"https:\/\/a-desk.org\/magazine\/androginos-freaks-y-dragones-en-la-imaginacion-queer-de-james-baldwin\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">J\u00falia Ripoll<\/a> reinterprets the figure of James Baldwin as that of an androgynous <em>freak<\/em>; and <a href=\"http:\/\/a-desk.org\/en\/?p=36927\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Elena Castro<\/a> proposes an approach to fantastic visuality from a new sense of sincerity.<\/p>\n<p>This month\u2019s issue offers a seedbed from which to understand that the fact that gender and sexuality are situated narratives (classified as myths within critical literature) not only allows us to expose them as naturalized fictions in order to delegitimize them, but also presents us with the opportunity to narrate, discount and retell new (auto)biographies that embrace a greater multiplicity of bodies.
