The next edition of Manifesta, Manifesta 9<\/a>, will take place this year in Genk, Limburg (Belgium). To begin to prepare the ground, the Manifesta 9 Coffee Break was held last December, with presentations, debates and workshops, to begin a process of reflection, with the function in the words of its curator, Cuauht\u00e9moc Medina, of \u201cinterrupting the machinery of the exhibition\u201d. During the course of the two days, amnesia in relation to history, fear of nostalgia and the need to recuperate the past to construct the future were discussed. We\u2019ve included two videos here, with two fragments of presentations by Viktor Misiano (about nostalgia and the changes suffered by the art scene in post-Soviet Russia, in relation to historic and political changes) and Ekaterina Degot (about how to incorporate the \u201chistoric\u201d factor in contemporary art exhibitions).<\/p>\n
