A*DESK has been offering since 2002 contents about criticism and contemporary art. A*DESK has become consolidated thanks to all those who have believed in the project, all those who have followed us, debating, participating and collaborating. Many people have collaborated with A*DESK, and continue to do so. Their efforts, knowledge and belief in the project are what make it grow internationally. At A*DESK we have also generated work for over one hundred professionals in culture, from small collaborations with reviews and classes, to more prolonged and intense collaborations.

At A*DESK we believe in the need for free and universal access to culture and knowledge. We want to carry on being independent, remaining open to more ideas and opinions. If you believe in A*DESK, we need your backing to be able to continue. You can now participate in the project by supporting it. You can choose how much you want to contribute to the project.

You can decide how much you want to bring to the project.

A*LIVE_Masters of Implosion

A*LIVE_Masters of Implosion is a project by A*DESK with the collaboration of Fito Conesa & Mery Cuesta and the complicity and support of Hangar.org centre/producció/recerca/arts.visuals.

This is the eighth edition of A*LIVE, the public program of A*DESK that consists of unfolded debate on contemporary subjects with a streaming television format. This second pandemic year, continuing with the format online opened last year, we have created an expanded and performative digital format with Fito Conesa and Mery Cuesta as masters of ceremony and catalysts for a series of artist audiovisual collaborations that revolve around the notion of implosion.

Thus, for this occasion, we have invited artists whose art gyrate around the idea of “implosion”, “implode” taken from different angles and perspectives. Participant artists —in order or implosion— are: Hito Steyerl with her piece How not to be seen (2013); Nuria Güell with La banalidad del bien (2021); Andreas M. Kaufmann with Much too much (2004); Tabita Rezaire with Premium Connect (2017); Eli Cortiñas with Walls have feelings (2019); Eloy Fernández Porta with Las aventuras de Genitalia y Normativa (2021); Robert Lippok with his sound piece From universe to universe (2021) produced for the occasion accompanied by Siddaharth Gautam Singh visuals.

A*LIVE_Masters of Implosion retakes the idea of social implosion. For some time now, different specialists have agreed that the malaise produced by the recession, the increase in poverty, inequality, and unemployment is translating into a phenomenon of social implosion: people, families, and groups bursting inwards. The artists invited propose sensory experiences that seek the climax for the final implosion, surely one of the most dignified ways out of the bombardment of images, comments, shocks, viruses, algorithms, encounters, and intrusions in our daily lives. After the implosion, nothing makes sense, everything disappears under our feet, everything vanishes….. Isn’t implosion also a relief?

Perhaps we need a total collapse of rationality, the emergence of a new kind of logic or as our selected artists visualize: a spiritual rebirth; turbulence in the realm of intimacy; overcome the organism-spirit-device division to explore spiritual connections as communication networks and the possibilities of decolonial technologies; disappearing, camouflaging oneself in a digital chroma, escaping; a dystopian space simulacrum of our present, where architecture and objects are muted and suspended instruments of power, in free-fall after the implosion; a provocative interpretation of the dynamics between the normative and the transgressive; a sensorial proposal that literally it is the sound of implosion from universe to universe. The tandem Conesa-Cuesta intertwines the contributions of collaborating artists on a subtext that connects television broadcasting as it was conceived in the 90s with the digital dissemination of content today.

A*LIVE_Masters of Implosion was recorded at Hangar.org and post-produced by Fito Conesa. It will be launch online via our youtube A*DeskTV channel on the 30th of December 2021 at 19h.

Infinitely thanks to the Hangar.org for making this possible; to Fito Conesa and Mery Cuesta for their talent and commitment; to Ro Caminal for her generosity and constant support and no need to say to the practitioners of the arts: Eli Cortiñas, Eloy Fernández Porta, Nuria Güell, Andreas M. Kaufmann, Robert Lippok, Tabita Rezaire, Hito Steyerl and Siddaharth Gautam Singh for joining us in this adventure.
