A*DESK has been offering since 2002 contents about criticism and contemporary art. A*DESK has become consolidated thanks to all those who have believed in the project, all those who have followed us, debating, participating and collaborating. Many people have collaborated with A*DESK, and continue to do so. Their efforts, knowledge and belief in the project are what make it grow internationally. At A*DESK we have also generated work for over one hundred professionals in culture, from small collaborations with reviews and classes, to more prolonged and intense collaborations.

At A*DESK we believe in the need for free and universal access to culture and knowledge. We want to carry on being independent, remaining open to more ideas and opinions. Vuelve a ser uno de mayo

Vuelve a ser uno de mayo, una fecha importante. Un día de reivindicación y reflexión, aunque las reivindicaciones y sus destinatarios cada vez sean más difusas. Vuelve a ser uno de mayo, y hoy se podría perfectamente republicar el texto que el mismo día, en el pasado año, firmaba Montse Badia. Porque trabajar en arte sigue siendo, hoy, un contexto laboral contradictorio.

En esta tensión se ubican, de un lado, los gigantes mastodónticos del 1%, aferrados a la pieza única, a la comercialización especulativa y al institucionalismo más animal en términos de voracidad y acumulación que se pueda imaginar. Hace apenas un mes se llevaba a cabo una protesta en el Guggenheim de Nueva York, en la que se denunciaban las paupérrimas condiciones laborales de los trabajadores que están construyendo su filial en la isla de Saadiyat, en Abu Dhabi.

Y tensando la cuerda encontramos, también, emergiendo como setas, propuestas liberadas de constricciones y de presupuestos (y no vamos a negarlo, también de estructuras que las apoyen), en las que ese otro arte tiene lugar. Ese arte necesario, el que se ocupa de encarar el cuestionamiento de las cosas, “el descontento, el buscar y crear sentido”.

Porque la cultura y su creación, producción y difusión sigue siendo un espacio de inseguridad, precariado y cuestionamiento constante; y porque el hecho de que así sea no hace que mengüe su razón de ser, si no que acaso la refuerce, hoy también celebramos el 1 de mayo.

A*DESK is a critical platform focused on publishing, training, experimentation, communication and dissemination in relation to contemporary culture and art, which is defined by transversality. The starting point is contemporary art, because that is where we come from and this awareness allows us to go much further, to incorporate other disciplines and forms of thought in order debate issues that are relevant and urgent for understanding our present.
