Artists, status and other contradictions
A*DESK presents another A*LIVE event, our presential and audiovisual format at which we discuss current topics.
At A*LIVE: Artists, Status and other Contradictions we organised a meeting to discuss the recent unanimous approval by the Spanish parliament of a Statute of the Artist and Cultural Professional, the role and status of art and culture in an increasingly standardised and regulated world that encourages artists, critics, curators and other cultural workers to be professional, versatile, multi-taskers, managers and our own community managers, among other things. This triggered a host of questions: what space is left for creativity, idiosyncrasy, experimentation and all that which doesn’t produce concrete results in the short term? How can we leave precariousness behind? Is all this a symptom that implies the end of art as we know it?
We want to discuss all this with Daniel Gasol, artist, Núria Güell, artist, and Eva Sòria, lawyer and visual arts coordinator at the Ramon Llull Institute, at an event chaired by Montse Badia, co-founder and y codirector of A*DESK.
A*LIVE: Artists, Status and Other Contradictions will take place at La Capella (ramp space) (Carrer Hospital, 56 – entrada por Jardins de Rubió i Lluch) on Tuesday 4 December at 7 pm.
