A*DESK has been offering since 2002 contents about criticism and contemporary art. A*DESK has become consolidated thanks to all those who have believed in the project, all those who have followed us, debating, participating and collaborating. Many people have collaborated with A*DESK, and continue to do so. Their efforts, knowledge and belief in the project are what make it grow internationally. At A*DESK we have also generated work for over one hundred professionals in culture, from small collaborations with reviews and classes, to more prolonged and intense collaborations.

At A*DESK we believe in the need for free and universal access to culture and knowledge. We want to carry on being independent, remaining open to more ideas and opinions. If you believe in A*DESK, we need your backing to be able to continue. You can now participate in the project by supporting it. You can choose how much you want to contribute to the project.

Conservadores de museo

La feria Art Basel una semana después de la Bienal de venecia repite artistas y obras. Allí en tamaño bienal, aquí en tamaño doméstico: por ejemplo, de Tomás Saraceno ocupando todo el espacio de la entrada del pabellón internacional en Venecia, a una de las bolitas de su instalación a la venta en un stand. Si la Bienal de Venecia en los últimos años parece cada vez más perder su aspecto prospectivo y más parece una exposición de museo, como un envío de las capacidades curriculares del comisario de cara a dirigir cualquier museo de este mundo globalizado… Si Basel es, olvidado unlimited, una feria en la que comprar en pequeñito lo de esos museos… Si los centros de arte se piensan en términos de salas de exposiciones, salas de actos, almacenes, espacios interactivos… ¿No será que el llamativo “Yes We Can” se ha quedado en un slogan que tapa el profundo conservadurismo en el que vivimos? (Al fin y al cabo, lejos de marcharse de Afganistán, Obama acaba de enviar más tropas) Y, sí, el arte, reflejo de la realidad (otra fórmula conservadora), estaría ahí, como siempre, a la vanguardia.

En este número, Marcela Römer nos reporta lo que ha dado de sí la feria Art Basel, Javir Hontoria ha escrito sobre el Festival de PhotoEspaña en Madrid, Nizaia Cassián sobre el libro “Llamamiento y otros fogonazos” y Martí Manen sobre nacionalismos y arte.

A*DESK is a critical platform focused on publishing, training, experimentation, communication and dissemination in relation to contemporary culture and art, which is defined by transversality. The starting point is contemporary art, because that is where we come from and this awareness allows us to go much further, to incorporate other disciplines and forms of thought in order debate issues that are relevant and urgent for understanding our present.
