A*DESK has been offering since 2002 contents about criticism and contemporary art. A*DESK has become consolidated thanks to all those who have believed in the project, all those who have followed us, debating, participating and collaborating. Many people have collaborated with A*DESK, and continue to do so. Their efforts, knowledge and belief in the project are what make it grow internationally. At A*DESK we have also generated work for over one hundred professionals in culture, from small collaborations with reviews and classes, to more prolonged and intense collaborations.

At A*DESK we believe in the need for free and universal access to culture and knowledge. We want to carry on being independent, remaining open to more ideas and opinions. If you believe in A*DESK, we need your backing to be able to continue. You can now participate in the project by supporting it. You can choose how much you want to contribute to the project.

You can decide how much you want to bring to the project.

Interconnected

We can learn from the global crisis related to the coronavirus that we are experiencing and whose causes are much more profound and diverse. Globalization is showing us our interdependence and fragility as individuals and as a collectivity.

We propose below some readings, videos and suggestions to use this time of generalized forced pause to reflect, enjoy, discover and rethink many things. Let us hope that in the end, this experience will not make us more lonely and distrustful, but more supportive.

We begin with three general recommendations, to analyze the situation and its impact on society, the economy and the world of culture.

The world of culture is reacting to the situation of widespread confinement. Many museums and art centres are still open online and offer virtual tours, access to archives and audiovisual material.  They can be accessed through their websites or social networks. Many musicians perform online concerts from their homes or festivals such as Cuarentena Fest, which takes place via streaming until 27 March.

In theatre, you can view online the entire archive that INAEM has of recorded works. But above all, we would like to highlight the initiative of companies such as La Calórica, which have made accessible works previously created by them. Authentic wonders. With the hashtag #coronavirusplays you can follow new additions from other companies and authors.

The cinematographic and audiovisual possibilities online are endless. In order not to get lost in an infinite sea of possibilities, we can follow the suggestions of our collaborator Marla Jacarilla in the social media. We point out here, a classic, a must that marked generations in this country, La Cabina de Antonio Mercero, which serves as an introduction to the exhibition Poetics of Democracy. Images and Counterimages of the Transition, from the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía, which speaks of the change in a pre-transition society and perhaps also reflects the present moment. Attention, then, to us depends (not totally, but to a large extent) on where the turn takes place.

A*DESK is a critical platform focused on publishing, training, experimentation, communication and dissemination in relation to contemporary culture and art, which is defined by transversality. The starting point is contemporary art, because that is where we come from and this awareness allows us to go much further, to incorporate other disciplines and forms of thought in order debate issues that are relevant and urgent for understanding our present.
